Westmeath Classic
The Pitch & Putt season in the midlands officially teed-off on Sunday last with the Jack McCormack Memorial Westmeath Classic at Kilbeggan Pitch & Putt Club. 155 supported the event for one of the late greats of the game Jack McCormack and it was Stackallen's Sean Downes who successfully retained the title following rounds of 49 and 43 for a 16 under par total. Top of the Offaly contenders were father and son combination, Mick and Mark Hogan from Tullamore. Mick secured third place with 13 under par and Mark fell one short of the leader on 15 under par to take the runner-up position. Tullamore's Joseph Pyke claimed the Intermediate prize with a score of 5 under par. Congratulations to all the winners on the day.
Catalan Open
A large Irish contingent including several members from Erry Pitch & Putt Club once again traveled this year to the Catalan Open which took place in Mas Pages Pitch & Putt Course on March 26th and 27th, which is roughly 1 hour north of Barcelona. On what was a very tough and challenging course the Irish still remained in contention for the title entering the final day's play. However, the event was impressively won by one of the top Catalan player's Marcel More on a 54 hole aggregate score of 6 under par. Dublin's John Ross Crangle was the best of the Irish and played very well to secure the runner-up position on 4 under par, just 3 shots ahead of Erry's William Buckley Jnr. who claimed third spot on 1 under par. Well done to William on another well deserved International top finish. Others who competed in the event were Billy Buckley Snr., Seanie Buckley and Larry Maher Jnr.
Dates for your Diary
The highly anticipated 2011 Offaly Co. Board Scratch Cup takes place this coming Sunday, April 3rd, at Tullamore Pitch & Putt Club. The title was won last year by Erry's William Buckley in which was a record breaking attendance of over 120 players for the event. Taking into account that Tullamore play host to the Leinster Inter-County championships this year it is anticipated that the event will once again draw a big crowd, therefore we hope that all local players will do their best to play early in the day to minimize the waiting times for everyone involved, especially those travelling long distances for the last card. Play commences at 9a.m. and the last card is at 1.30p.m. with the play-off scheduled for 5p.m. All registered PPUI members are very welcome! Click here to view Poster »
