National Inter-County 2011 Round-Up
The National Inter-County Championships took place recently at the coastal venue of Portmarnock Pitch & Putt Club, Dublin. It proved a hard fought weekend for all involved as the weather played a vicious role in the scoring. In the Ladies section Dublin prevailed on home soil to capture a memorable victory and added the National title to their Leinster title that they had won in Tullamore in August. They posted a fine score of +3 in the Foursomes and +6 in the Singles for an overall score of +9. The Kildare ladies secured Runner-Up spot, only 6 shots behind Dublin, while Tipperary held out to take Third spot a further 7 shots behind Kildare. The Offaly ladies played well and kept the tri-coloured flag flying at the championships with the best performances in the singles recorded by Linda Flanagan, Ann-Marie McCabe and Tracey McGrath. In the Gents section our Offaly gents were among the early leaders following the Foursomes with an overall score of -12, which came in the form of; Larry Maher Jnr. & Darren O'Connell -6, Mark Hogan & Joseph McGrath Jnr. -3 and William Buckley Jnr. & Graham Newman -3. However, the harsh elements continued to effect play in the singles with most counties struggling on the back 9 holes. Offaly were no different and with many missed opportunities they slipped back into a share of fourth place with Dublin. The championship was won by an unstoppable Cork team that provided a strong showing in the singles to record an overall score of -41. In doing so they secured a record breaking ninth title in a row. The Runner-Up place went to Meath on -28 and an outstanding team performance from Wexford saw them take Third place on -20.

(Erry), Graham Newman (Erry), Joseph McGrath Jnr. (Erry), Larry Maher Jnr. (Erry), Mark Hogan (Tullamore), Darren O'Connell (Tullamore) and managers Gerry Gallagher (Erry) and Mick Hogan (Tullamore).
