24th March 2009: Offaly Alliance Draws To A Close...Erry Duo Honoured as Grand Marshals of St. Patrick's Day Parade..

The Offaly Alliance drew to a close last week in Erry Pitch & Putt Club. The event saw a record crowd of over 40 players take part, with some past faces of the game making a welcomed returned showing that they haven't lost their swing. A combination of great weather and play created a very enjoyable day which was capped off by a presentation to all winners of the entire 11 stages of the Alliance. The presentation was warmly welcomed and held in Clara Sports and Leisure Centre by one of Offaly Co. Board's Pitch & Putt sponsors, Mr. Michael Egan.

Michael gladly presented the prize winners with their vouchers, Mick Kenny (Ferbane) and Joe McGrath Jnr. (Erry) were amongst top recipients over the 11 week period. A special thanks must be attributed to Michael Egan and also to Mary McGrath and Una Pyke for the hot food and refreshments provided for all the players and members that attended the presentation. The winners of the final stage of the Alliance were as follows: Overall 36 Nett: 78 - Eddie Lynch (Tullamore) & Matt King (Erry), Overall 36 Gross: 91 - Larry Maher (Erry) & Darren O'Connell (Tullamore), 36 Mixed Nett: 78 - Helen McDonnell (Tullamore) & William Buckley Jnr. (Erry), 36 Mixed Gross: 92 - Ann Minnogue (Ferbane) & Joe McGrath Jnr. (Erry).

Erry held their St. Patrick's Day Open Scramble last week in the glorious sunshine. The club played host to members of Erry, Ferbane and Tullamore in an open, restricted to Offaly, three ball scramble. And what a feast of pitch and putt was had with some terrific scoring across the teams. The results were as follows: 1st Nett: 58 - Ann-Marie McCabe (Ferbane), Simon Bracken (Erry), Jimmy Scanlon (Erry), 1st Gross: 80 - Joe Egan (Erry), Gerry Gallagher (Erry), Sean Robinson (Ferbane), 2nd Nett: 64 - Patsy Reams (Ferbane), Ultan McCabe (Ferbane), Gary King (Erry), 2nd Gross: 80 - William Buckley Jnr. Erry Pitch & Putt Club would like to congratulate William Buckley Jnr. and Tracey McGrath on their recent performance as the grand marshals of the Clara St. Patrick's Day Parade, an honour which was well deserved for all the success and honour they have bestowed upon in the Erry Club, Clara, Offaly and Ireland. They opened the parade in fine fashion alongside European Number One amateur golfer Shane Lowry, who was also a past member of the Erry Pitch and Putt Club as a juvenile. The threesome opened the parade following a presentation from Parade organiser Bertie McMahon on behalf of Clara Town. Well done to William, Tracey and Shane and best wishes for further future success.
