18th October 2009: Leinster Schools Final Results

Leinster Schools Final @ McDonagh
Congratulations to the Offaly schools from Clara, Ferbane and Tullamore who successfully competed at the Leinster Schools Final at McDonagh on Wednesday last. The Offaly schools dominated the finals claiming first and second places with some fine shooting. Thirty teams travelled to the Curragh for the popular schools competition. Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa 1 comprised of Graham Newman, Robert Mitchell and David Newman set the early lead on 322 (-2) helped by an impressive round of 46 (-8) from Clara man Robert Mitchell. However, it wasn't long before the Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa 1 relinquished their lead as the Tullamore College team of Joseph Pyke, Bryan McCormack and Gary Pyke added a second round of level par to their first round total of -6 for an overall score of 318 (-6). It was a nervous wait for the Tullamore team but they just held on for a memorable victory at McDonagh. Congratulations to the Tullamore College and Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa teams who secured first and second places and to all who took part. Special thanks to the teams mentors and school supervisors from Clara, Ferbane and Tullamore who made the teams participation possible in the competition.

10th October 2009: Qualifying Rounds
The Leinster Secondary Schools Competition qualifying stages took place recently with ten entries and five to qualify. It was no surprise that it was the members of the Offaly Juvenile Team, recently crowned Leinster Inter-County Juvnile Champions, who came to the fore in helping their respective school teams qualify. The qualifiers were as follows: In first was Ard Scoil Chiaran Naofa A, Clara, with a total score of 316 - Graham Newman 99, David Newman 109 and Robert Mitchell 108. The second qualifying spot went to Tullamore College A with a 322 total - Joseph Pyke 104, Gary Pyke 114, Brian McCormack 104. Third qualifying spot went to Gallen Community School A, Ferbane with a total of 339 - Brian Doyle 107, Ian Flanagan 116 and Shane Mooney 116. The fourth qualifying spot went to Gallen Community School B, Ferbane with a total of 343 - Michael Butler 118, Liam Claffey 121 and Garry Egan 114. The fifth and final qualifying spot went to Ard Scoil Chiaran Naofa B, Clara with a total of 350 - Patrick Fleming 115, Darren Fleming 112 and Stephen O'Brien 113. The Leinster Schools Final takes place on October 14 in McDonagh Pitch & Putt Club, The Curragh Kildare. We wish all five teams the very best of luck. Last year's Leinster Schools Team Runner-Up from Colaiste Choilm were unfortunately unable to take part this year. We would like to thank the team mentors and the respective secondary schools for their support in this competition.
