Locals Dominant at Erry Open Singles...
While Maher Masters Riverdale to Secure John Shoer Memorial Scratch Cup..

Erry hosted their first open competition of the year over the Easter weekend from Friday to Sunday, Erry Open Singles Strokeplay. It was a successfully run event supported by many players locally and from neighbouring counties. The course was in great order which is solely attributed to all the committee and ground staff at the club, the greens in perfect condition certainly amongst the best in the country at present. With such conditions the course was really inviting high scores over the weekend and the locals duly obliged claiming the majority of prizes on offer.

Congratulations to all the winners over the weekend and special thanks to all who supported Erry Pitch and Putt Club over the three day event. Maher Masters Riverdale to Secure John Shoer Memorial Scratch Cup..

Congratulations to Larry Maher Jnr. who continued his winning form at Riverdale at the John Shoer Memorial Scratch Cup on Easter Monday. Larry just off the back of a dramatic 6 hole playoff the weekend before at the Offaly Co. Board Scratch Cup secured his second Scratch Cup of 2009 in fine fashion. In overcast and somewhat showery conditions Larry shot opening rounds of 45 and 44 to post an impressive 19 under for 36 holes. Nearest contender to him was local Tipp man and 2008 Gents Inter National Strokeplay Champion, Stephen Shoer, who carded 16 under for 36 holes. The title inevitably came down to these two young guns of the modern game in the playoff. Shoer closed the gap to within one shot at the turn of 9 holes only to watch his playing partner convert 5 birdies to card 5 under on the back nine to finish 49 and 24 under overall. Shoer to his credit fought all the way to the 18th and finished with a third round 48 to finish 22 under overall. Well done to Larry once again maybe this is the year he will make a long awaited break through at championship level!
