About Us - Inter-County Teams
2009 Inter-County Team Trials Score Sheet
Each year the County Board holds a number of trials for both Ladies and Gents within Offaly to determine respective Inter-County Teams which take part in the Leinster and National Inter-County Championships each year. You will find updates on trials here as they happen.
The top six players in both genders following trials go forward to represent Offaly in the Leinster Championships that take place in early August. This provincial competition consists of 18 holes foursome and 18 holes singles with all scores to count. The highly competitive National Championships take place over the first weekend of September. Only the top five players take part in a 36 holes singles strokeplay with the top four scores on the day to count, the sixth man/woman is the super sub over the weekend, on stand by if needed.
Offaly have had mixed fortunes in both championships and continue to remain a competitive threat each year. The best top finishes in the Leinster for the Gents team was second place at St. Stephen's Enniscorthy in 2002, while the Ladies team best finish has been third place in the past two years, McDonagh in 2007 and Bagnelstown in 2008.
The best top finishes by the Offaly Gents team at National level has been third, notably at Tipperary Hills in 1991, Cloghogue (Newry) in 1992, Collinstown in 1996 and at Navan in 1998. To date the Offaly Ladies best finish on the National stage has been fourth place, however they did taste victory when the championship was a two tier competition and they won Division B at Waterford Crystal in 1999.

Both teams take part in the annual Offaly/Westmeath Challenge, which takes place at alternative venues in Offaly and Westmeath from one year to the next. The format is 36 holes strokeplay with the best five scores of the six players to count. Following the Challenge in Custume in 2007, which the Offaly Gents won and Ladies lost, in August last the Challenge took place in Erry and it saw Offaly pull off a convincing double victory.
